IUA welcomes the launch of the OECD Skills Strategy Project for Ireland.
The universities are key players and active partners in Ireland’s skills architecture and ecosystem. IUA looks forward to engaging with the OECD Skills Strategy Project as it progresses. This is an important and timely opportunity to look collectively at how skills are developed, recognised and used in Ireland. It offers the chance to build on what we already do well, and to look to the future and how to ensure Ireland is equipped to meet current and future skills needs.
The IUA calls for the Review to be ambitious in this regard, and enable the brave moves necessary to maintain and build on Ireland’s competitiveness and sustain the country’s economic and social wellbeing.
Our universities produce and nurture the talent pipeline of well-rounded and highly skilled graduates, including through the provision of lifelong learning, continuous professional development, and up-skilling/ re-skilling. Advances in research, led by the university sector, are key in influencing areas of future skills growth, supported by innovation and strong university/ enterprise partnerships.
Ends.
